# Shane Gray

**Shane Gray** (born 3 September 1990) is an Australian professional [rugby league](/source/Rugby_league) footballer. He plays at and and previously played for the [Gold Coast Titans](/source/Gold_Coast_Titans) in the [National Rugby League](/source/National_Rugby_League).

## Background

Born in [Newcastle, New South Wales](/source/Newcastle,_New_South_Wales), Gray played his junior rugby league for the [South Newcastle Lions](/source/South_Newcastle_Lions) in the [Newcastle Rugby League](/source/Newcastle_Rugby_League), before being signed by the [Newcastle Knights](/source/Newcastle_Knights).

## Playing career

In 2008, Gray played for the Newcastle Knights' [NYC](/source/National_Youth_Competition_(rugby_league)) team.[1]

In 2008, Gray signed a two-year contract with the [Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles](/source/Manly-Warringah_Sea_Eagles) starting in 2009.[2] He played for Manly's [NYC](/source/National_Youth_Competition_(rugby_league)) team in 2009.[3]

In June 2009, Gray tested positive to [clenbuterol](/source/Clenbuterol), a banned substance. He argued that the substance was found in an asthma medication he was prescribed but chose not to contest the two-year ban. He returned to [Newcastle](/source/Newcastle,_New_South_Wales) to play for [South Newcastle](/source/Newcastle_Rugby_League#Current_Clubs) again before joining the [Burleigh Bears](/source/Burleigh_Bears) in the [Queensland Cup](/source/Queensland_Cup).[2]

In 2012, Gray was named in the [Philippines national rugby league team](/source/Philippines_national_rugby_league_team) squad to take on [Thailand](/source/Thailand_national_rugby_league_team) but pulled out due to family commitments.[4]

After drawing the attention of [Gold Coast Titans](/source/Gold_Coast_Titans) coach [John Cartwright](/source/John_Cartwright_(rugby_league)), Gray signed a one-year contract with the Gold Coast club starting in 2013.[2]

In round 12 of the [2013 NRL season](/source/2013_NRL_season), Gray made his [NRL](/source/National_Rugby_League) debut for the Gold Coast against the [North Queensland Cowboys](/source/North_Queensland_Cowboys).[5][6]

At the end of 2013, Gray was released by the Gold Coast.
