# Shaferocharis

***Shaferocharis*** is a genus of [flowering plants](/source/Flowering_plant) belonging to the family [Rubiaceae](/source/Rubiaceae).[1]

It is native to the island of [Cuba](/source/Cuba).[1]

The genus name of *Shaferocharis* is in honour of [John Adolph Shafer](/source/John_Adolph_Shafer) (1863–1918), an American botanist.[2] The Latin [suffix](/source/Suffix) of *ocharis* is derived from [Charis](/source/Charis_(name)), derived from a Greek word meaning "grace, kindness, and life".[3] It was first described and published in Symb. Antill. Vol.7 on page 412 in 1912.[1]
