For the 2004 opera by Brian Ferneyhough, see [Shadowtime (opera)](/source/Shadowtime_(opera)).

"**Shadowtime**" is a song written and recorded by English rock band [Siouxsie and the Banshees](/source/Siouxsie_and_the_Banshees) and produced by [Stephen Hague](/source/Stephen_Hague). It was released in July 1991 by [Polydor Records](/source/Polydor_Records) as the second single from the band's 10th studio album, *[Superstition](/source/Superstition_(Siouxsie_and_the_Banshees_album))* (1991).

## Music and reception

The song is an up-tempo, [pop](/source/Pop_music)-oriented tune that received moderate airplay on [alternative rock](/source/Alternative_rock) radios in the US in 1991.[1] "Shadowtime" was [remixed](/source/Remix) slightly for its single version, giving it a fuller, synthesized sound and adding some background vocals by Siouxsie Sioux.

Bassist [Steven Severin](/source/Steven_Severin) said that "Shadowtime" was a kind of tribute to [Roxy Music](/source/Roxy_Music)'s *[For Your Pleasure](/source/For_Your_Pleasure)*.[2]

"Shadowtime" reached number 57 in the [UK Singles Chart](/source/UK_Singles_Chart).[3] In the United States, it spent six weeks on the [Modern Rock Tracks](/source/Alternative_Songs) chart, peaking at number 13 for the week of 12 October 1991.[4]
