**Shadow Brook**, also known as **East Springfield Brook**,[2][3] is a [river](/source/River) in northern [Otsego County](/source/Otsego_County,_New_York) in the U.S. State of [New York](/source/New_York_(state)). It begins north-northeast of the Hamlet of [East Springfield](/source/East_Springfield,_New_York), and flows into [Otsego Lake](/source/Otsego_Lake_(New_York)) south-southeast of the Hamlet of [Springfield Center](/source/Springfield_Center,_New_York), near [Glimmerglass State Park](/source/Glimmerglass_State_Park). It is the largest [watershed](/source/Drainage_basin) in the Otsego Lake basin.[1][4]

## History

Shadow Brook flows under the historic [Hyde Hall Bridge](/source/Hyde_Hall_Bridge), a covered bridge that was built in 1825. The bridge consists of a single 53-foot (16-metre) span using a [Burr Arch Truss](/source/Burr_Truss) and was constructed by master carpenter Cyrenus Clark with assistance from carpenter Andrew Alden and stonemason Lorenzo Bates. Renovations to the bridge were performed by the [State of New York](/source/New_York_(state)) in 1967.[5][6] It is one of 29 historic [covered bridges in New York State](/source/List_of_New_York_covered_bridges).

## Fishing

[Suckers](/source/Catostomidae) can be speared and taken from the creek from January 1 to May 15, each year.[7]
