'''Moscatel de Setúbal''' is a [Portuguese](/source/Portuguese_wine) [muscatel](/source/muscatel) produced around the [Setúbal Municipality](/source/Set%C3%BAbal_Municipality) on the [Península de Setúbal](/source/Pen%C3%ADnsula_de_Set%C3%BAbal). The region is known primarily for its [fortified](/source/fortified_(wine)) [Muscat](/source/Muscat_(wine)) wines known as Moscatel de Setúbal. The style was believed to have been invented by José Maria da Fonseca, the founder of [José Maria da Fonseca](/source/Jos%C3%A9_Maria_da_Fonseca), the oldest industrial-scale table wine producer in Portugal dating back to 1834. J.M. Fonseca company still holds a quasi-monopoly control over the production of Moscatel de Setúbal today.<ref name="Sotheby pg 333">T. ==Wine styles==
Similar to [Port](/source/Port_wine), Moscatel de Setúbal wines are wood aged until they are bottled. They can be made from grapes of a single [vintage](/source/vintage) or in a "non-vintage" style as a blend of several vintages. The wines tend to be at their freshest and more fruity styles at up to around 5–6 years of age, where they have pronounced [apricot](/source/apricot) notes. As they age, the wines get darker with more [raisin](/source/raisin), [caramel](/source/caramel) and [nut](/source/Nut_(fruit))ty aromas and flavors.<ref name="Sotheby pg 333"/>

==Grapes==
The DOC regulations for Moscatel de Setúbal specify that the wines are to be composed primarily of [Muscat of Alexandria](/source/Muscat_of_Alexandria) or [Moscatel Roxo](/source/Moscatel_Roxo). The blend can include up to 30% of [Arinto](/source/Arinto), [Boais](/source/Boais), [Diagalves](/source/Diagalves), [Fernao Pires](/source/Fernao_Pires), [Malvasia](/source/Malvasia){{which|date=February 2023}}, [Olho de Lebre](/source/Olho_de_Lebre), [Rabo de Ovelha](/source/Rabo_de_Ovelha), [Roupeiro](/source/Roupeiro), [Talia](/source/Talia_(grape)), [Tamarez](/source/Tamarez) and [Vital](/source/Vital_(grape)).<ref name="Sotheby pg 333"/>
