Series of slave revolts in the late Roman Republic

The **Servile Wars** were a series of three [slave revolts](/source/Slave_revolts) ("servile" is derived from *servus*, Latin for "slave") in the late [Roman Republic](/source/Roman_Republic):

- [First Servile War](/source/First_Servile_War) (135−132 BC) — in [Sicily](/source/Sicily), led by [Eunus](/source/Eunus), a former slave claiming to be a prophet, and [Cleon](/source/Cleon_(general)) from [Cilicia](/source/Cilicia)

- [Second Servile War](/source/Second_Servile_War) (104−100 BC) — in Sicily, led by [Athenion](/source/Athenion_of_Cilicia) and [Tryphon](/source/Salvius_Tryphon)

- [Third Servile War](/source/Third_Servile_War) (73−71 BC) — in mainland Italy, led by [Spartacus](/source/Spartacus)
