Born in France, he plays for the [Guinea national team](/source/Guinea_national_football_team).

Guirassy began his career at [Laval](/source/Stade_Lavallois), before playing for [Lille](/source/Lille_OSC), [1. FC Köln](/source/1._FC_K%C3%B6ln), [Amiens](/source/Amiens_SC) and [Rennes](/source/Stade_Rennais_F.C.). He later joined [VfB Stuttgart](/source/VfB_Stuttgart), where he set a club record by scoring 28 goals in the [2023–24 season](/source/2023%E2%80%9324_Bundesliga). In 2024, he moved to [Borussia Dortmund](/source/Borussia_Dortmund), where he became their top scorer in a single Champions League campaign with 13 goals in [2024–25](/source/2024%E2%80%9325_UEFA_Champions_League).

## Early life

Guirassy was born in [Arles](/source/Arles), France, to [Guinean](/source/Guinean) parents.[4]

## Club career

Guirassy started his career playing for [Montargis](/source/USM_Montargis), [Amilly](/source/J3S_Amilly) and [Laval](/source/Stade_Lavallois).[5]

### Lille

In July 2015, Guirassy joined [Lille](/source/LOSC_Lille) from Laval, signing a four-year contract. The transfer fee was reported to be around €1 million.[6][7]

### 1. FC Köln

Guirassy joined [1. FC Köln](/source/1._FC_K%C3%B6ln) in July 2016, signing a five-year contract.[8][9] Soon after arriving at Köln, he underwent [meniscus](/source/Meniscus_(anatomy)) surgery. Later in the first half of the 2016–17 season, muscular problems kept him out of action.[10] He made his [Bundesliga](/source/Bundesliga) debut on matchday 26 on 1 April 2017, in a 2–1 defeat against [Hamburger SV](/source/Hamburger_SV).[10][11] Days later, he was again kept from playing by muscular issues. Towards the end of the season, Guirassy nursed an [inflammation of the pubic bone joint](/source/Osteitis_pubis).[10]

In his second season, he scored his first goal in a 2–1 away defeat against [Bayer Levekusen](/source/Bayer_04_Leverkusen) on 28 October 2017.[12] Five days later, he scored his first goal in the [Europa League](/source/2017%E2%80%9318_UEFA_Europa_League) in a 5–2 victory over [BATE Borisov](/source/FC_BATE_Borisov).[13] Later that month, he scored the only goal in a 1–0 win against [Arsenal](/source/Arsenal_F.C.) in the same tournament.[14] Eventually, 1. FC Köln finished last in the league to be relegated, with Guirassy being their top scorer in all competitions.[12]

### Amiens

In January 2019, he was loaned to [Amiens](/source/Amiens_SC) until the end of the season.[15] Amiens exercised an option and bought the rights for Guirassy for the upcoming season. Transfer fees were reported to be about 5 to 6 million Euros.[16] Amiens later took advantage of the option and turned the deal permanent.[17]

On 15 February 2020, he scored a brace in a 4–4 draw against [Paris Saint-Germain](/source/Paris_Saint-Germain_F.C.), with his second goal equalized the match in the stoppage time.[18] However, Amiens were relegated while being at 19th position, when the league was suspended prematurely following the outbreak of [COVID-19 in France](/source/COVID-19_pandemic_in_France).[19]

### Rennes

On 27 August 2020, Guirassy joined [Ligue 1](/source/Ligue_1) side [Rennes](/source/Stade_Rennais_F.C.) on a five-year deal.[20] He scored his first two goals for the club in the same match, a 4–2 [league](/source/Ligue_1) win against [Nîmes](/source/N%C3%AEmes_Olympique).[21] On 20 October 2020, he scored his first [Champions League](/source/UEFA_Champions_League) goal in a 1–1 draw against [Krasnodar](/source/FC_Krasnodar) in the [2020–21 season](/source/2020%E2%80%9321_UEFA_Champions_League),[22] which was also his club's first ever goal in the competition.[12] On 20 March 2022, he scored his first career hat-trick in a 6–1 thrashing of [FC Metz](/source/FC_Metz).[23]

### VfB Stuttgart

Guirassy with [VfB Stuttgart](/source/VfB_Stuttgart) in 2022

On 1 September 2022, Guirassy joined [Bundesliga](/source/Bundesliga) club [VfB Stuttgart](/source/VfB_Stuttgart) on loan for the 2022–23 season.[24] On 31 May 2023, the club announced that they had activated the option to make the move permanent, signing a three-year contract.[25]

In the [2023–24 season](/source/2023%E2%80%9324_Bundesliga), Guirassy scored ten goals in the first five matches, including his first Bundesliga hat-trick which came against [Mainz](/source/1._FSV_Mainz_05), to equal a previous record set by [Robert Lewandowski](/source/Robert_Lewandowski) in 2020–21.[12] He also set the Bundesliga record for most goals by a player in the first seven matches of a season by scoring a hat-trick within 15 minutes in a 3–1 win against [Wolfsburg](/source/VfL_Wolfsburg). This set the record at 13 goals, overtaking Lewandowski's record of 11 in both 2019–20 and 2020–21.[26] After scoring his 14th goal of the season in an away match against [Union Berlin](/source/1._FC_Union_Berlin), he was substituted after 30 minutes of play due to a hamstring injury.[27] He later missed two league matches,[28] before he managed to score a penalty to secure a 2–1 victory over [Borussia Dortmund](/source/Borussia_Dortmund), and to reach 15 goals in his first nine matches of the season.[29]

On 13 April 2024, he scored his 25th Bundesliga goal in a 3–0 victory over [Eintracht Frankfurt](/source/Eintracht_Frankfurt), breaking the record of most goals by a Stuttgart player in a single campaign set by [Mario Gómez](/source/Mario_G%C3%B3mez) in the 2008–09 season.[30] A few days later, he was named Player of the Month for March, achieving the prize for the second time in the season after September 2023.[31] On the final matchday of the 2023–24 season, he netted a brace in a 4–0 win over [Borussia Mönchengladbach](/source/Borussia_M%C3%B6nchengladbach), finishing the season with 28 goals in 28 matches, only behind [Harry Kane](/source/Harry_Kane).[32] Additionally, he scored the opening goal for the 12th time that season during the match, tying a Bundesliga record set by [Gerd Müller](/source/Gerd_M%C3%BCller) in 1969–70, [Ailton](/source/A%C3%ADlton_(footballer%2C_born_1973)) in 2003–04 and [Stefan Kießling](/source/Stefan_Kie%C3%9Fling) in 2012–13.[33]

### Borussia Dortmund

On 18 July 2024, Guirassy signed a four-year contract with [Borussia Dortmund](/source/Borussia_Dortmund) for a reported transfer fee of €18 million.[34][35] On 18 September, he scored his first goal from a penalty in a 3–0 away win over [Club Brugge](/source/Club_Brugge_KV) in the [Champions League](/source/2024%E2%80%9325_UEFA_Champions_League) group stage.[36] On 11 February 2025, Guirassy scored his tenth goal in the Champions League in a 3–0 away victory over [Sporting Lisbon](/source/Sporting_CP),[37] becoming the third Dortmund player, after [Robert Lewandowski](/source/Robert_Lewandowski) and [Erling Haaland](/source/Erling_Haaland), to score ten goals in a single Champions League campaign.[38] On 22 February, for the first time in his career, Guirassy scored four goals in a game in a 6–0 home victory over [Union Berlin](/source/1._FC_Union_Berlin), becoming the third Dortmund player in the 21st century alongside [Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang](/source/Pierre-Emerick_Aubameyang) and Erling Haaland to score four goals in a league match.[39]

On 15 April, he netted his first Champions League [hat-trick](/source/List_of_UEFA_Champions_League_hat-tricks) in a 3–1 win over [Barcelona](/source/FC_Barcelona) – against whom he also scored a brace months prior – during the [quarter-finals](/source/2024%E2%80%9325_UEFA_Champions_League_knockout_phase) of the competition, becoming Africa's and Dortmund's all-time top goalscorer in a single campaign with 13 goals.[40] With his hat-trick, he also became one of only four players next to Lewandowski, [Marco Reus](/source/Marco_Reus) and [Karim Adeyemi](/source/Karim_Adeyemi) to ever score a hat-trick for Dortmund in the competition.[41][42][43] Guirassy ended his first Champions League season with Dortmund with fourteen matches played, thirteen goals scored and four assists provided, securing the top scorer spot in the competition alongside [Raphinha](/source/Raphinha).[44][45] Hence, he became the second African player to achieve this feat, only after [George Weah](/source/George_Weah) in 1994–95.[46] In the [2025 FIFA Club World Cup](/source/2025_FIFA_Club_World_Cup), he netted a brace in a 2–1 victory over [Monterrey](/source/C.F._Monterrey), qualifying his club to the quarter-finals, where he scored in a 3–2 loss to Real Madrid.[47]

## International career

Guirassy with [Guinea](/source/Guinea_national_football_team) at the [2023 Africa Cup of Nations](/source/2023_Africa_Cup_of_Nations)

Guirassy was a youth international for France.[48] However, he decided to represent the country of origin, the [Republic of Guinea](/source/Republic_of_Guinea), at senior level. He debuted in the [Guinea national team](/source/Guinea_national_football_team) in a 0–0 friendly draw against [South Africa](/source/South_Africa_national_soccer_team) on 25 March 2022, held in [Kortrijk](/source/Kortrijk), [Belgium](/source/Belgium).[49]

In December 2023, he was named in the Guinean squad for the [2023 Africa Cup of Nations](/source/2023_Africa_Cup_of_Nations) in Ivory Coast.[50]

With six goals, Guirassy was the second top scorer during [qualification](/source/2025_Africa_Cup_of_Nations_qualification) for the [2025 Africa Cup of Nations](/source/2025_Africa_Cup_of_Nations), only behind [Morocco](/source/Morocco_national_football_team)'s [Brahim Díaz](/source/Brahim_D%C3%ADaz). This was not enough to progress, however, as Guinea missed out on the finals for the first time since 2017.[51][52]
