**Sergio Salas** (born March 21, 1981, in [Cochabamba](/source/Cochabamba)) is a [Bolivian](/source/Bolivia) former [footballer](/source/Association_football) who last played for [West Texas United Sockers](/source/West_Texas_United_Sockers) in the [USL Second Division](/source/USL_Second_Division).

## Career

### Youth

Salas moved from his native Bolivia to the United States as a child, settling with his family in [McLean, Virginia](/source/McLean%2C_Virginia). He attended [Mclean High School](/source/Mclean_High_School), but chose not to play [college soccer](/source/College_soccer_in_the_United_States), instead turning professional straight out high school when he signed a Project-40 contract with [Major League Soccer](/source/Major_League_Soccer).

### Professional

Salas was drafted in the third round (27th overall) of the [2000 MLS SuperDraft](/source/2000_MLS_SuperDraft) by [D.C. United](/source/D.C._United).[1] He spent most of the season on loan to [MLS Pro 40](/source/MLS_Pro_40),[2] but played one game, 18 minutes in total for D.C. before being released at the end of the season. Following his release from DC, Salas bounced around the American lower-leagues, playing for [Northern Virginia Royals](/source/Northern_Virginia_Royals) in the [USL Second Division](/source/USL_Second_Division), and the amateur [Indios USA](/source/Indios_USA) in the [National Premier Soccer League](/source/National_Premier_Soccer_League), before signing on with Bolivian pro team [Club Aurora](/source/Club_Aurora) in 2005. In 2006 Salas joined [Municipal Real Mamore](/source/Municipal_Real_Mamore) on a one-year loan. That year the Team won the Bolivian 2nd division tournament [Simon Bolivar](/source/Simon_Bolivar) and won promotion to 1st division.

Salas returned to the United States in 2009 to play for the [West Texas United Sockers](/source/West_Texas_United_Sockers) in the [USL Premier Development League](/source/USL_Premier_Development_League),[3] before moving to the [Real Maryland Monarchs](/source/Real_Maryland_Monarchs) in the [USL Second Division](/source/USL_Second_Division).[4]
