The '''Senate 2001 bloc''' ({{langx|pl|Blok Senat 2001}}) was an [electoral alliance](/source/electoral_alliance) in [Poland](/source/Poland) used by [centre-right](/source/centre-right) parties in the [election to the](/source/2001_Polish_parliamentary_election) [Senate](/source/Senate_of_the_Republic_of_Poland) in 2001.  It included post-[Solidarity Electoral Action](/source/Solidarity_Electoral_Action) parties, who aimed to prevent domination of the Senate by the [centre-left](/source/centre-left) [Democratic Left Alliance – Labor Union](/source/Democratic_Left_Alliance_%E2%80%93_Labor_Union) (SLD-UP).  All of the component parties competed in the concurrent election to the [Sejm](/source/Sejm_of_the_Republic_of_Poland) separately (the [Movement for the Reconstruction of Poland](/source/Movement_for_the_Reconstruction_of_Poland) ran on the ticket of the [League of Polish Families](/source/League_of_Polish_Families)).

The parties involved in the alliance were:

* [Civic Platform](/source/Civic_Platform) (with [Real Politics Union](/source/Real_Politics_Union) and [Conservative-People's Party](/source/Conservative-People's_Party)), a [liberal conservative](/source/liberal_conservatism) party led by [Maciej Płażyński](/source/Maciej_P%C5%82a%C5%BCy%C5%84ski)

Pre-election polling put the alliance on 30 to 40 seats.  However, in the event, it won only 15 seats to the SLD-UP's 75.  The alliance remained as a [caucus](/source/caucus) in the Senate until the [2005 election](/source/2005_Polish_parliamentary_election), but didn't run for any other office. Law and Justice and Civic Platform continued cooperation also during [2002 local elections](/source/2002_Polish_local_elections) as [POPiS](/source/POPiS) coalition.

The size of the caucus entitled the party to one member, [Edmund Wittbrodt](/source/Edmund_Wittbrodt), of the [Convention on the Future of Europe](/source/Convention_on_the_Future_of_Europe).  Two of its members, Wittbrodt and [Andrzej Chronowski](/source/Andrzej_Chronowski), served as [MEPs](/source/Member_of_the_European_Parliament) for three months after [accession](/source/Accession_of_Poland_to_the_European_Union) in 2004, before [elections](/source/2004_European_Parliament_election_in_Poland) could be held.
