'''Selsingen''' is a municipality in the [district of Rotenburg](/source/Rotenburg_(district)), in [Lower Saxony](/source/Lower_Saxony), [Germany](/source/Germany). It is situated approximately {{convert|15|km|mi}} southeast of [Bremervörde](/source/Bremerv%C3%B6rde), and {{convert|45|km|mi}} northeast of [Bremen](/source/Bremen), and is twinned with the [English](/source/England) village of [Sawston](/source/Sawston) in [Cambridgeshire](/source/Cambridgeshire).

Selsingen was under the secular governance of the [Prince-Archbishopric of Bremen](/source/Prince-Archbishopric_of_Bremen), established in 1180.<ref name="Schütz 1995 270seq">Michael Schütz, „Die Konsolidierung des Erzstiftes unter Johann Rode“, in: ''Geschichte des Landes zwischen Elbe und Weser'': 3 vols., Hans-Eckhard Dannenberg and Heinz-Joachim Schulze (eds.) on behalf of the Landschaftsverband der ehemaligen Herzogtümer Bremen und Verden, Stade: Landschaftsverband der ehemaligen Herzogtümer Bremen und Verden, 1995 and 2008, vol. II: pp. 263–278, here pp. 270seq. {{ISBN|978-3-9801919-8-2}}.</ref> However, in respect to religious governance, Selsingen formed part of the [Roman Catholic Diocese of Verden](/source/Diocese_of_Verden).<ref name="Schütz 1995 270seq" /> In 1648 the Prince-Archbishopric was transformed into the [Duchy of Bremen](/source/Duchy_of_Bremen), which was first ruled in [personal union](/source/personal_union) by the Swedish and from 1715 on by the Hanoverian Crown. In 1823 the Duchy was abolished and its territory became part of the [Stade Region](/source/Stade_(region)).

Selsingen is also the seat of the ''[Samtgemeinde](/source/Samtgemeinde)'' ("collective municipality") [Selsingen](/source/Selsingen_(Samtgemeinde)).
