# Selina Chirchir

**Selina Chirchir Kimaiyo** (born August 28, 1968) is a retired [Kenyan](/source/Kenya) middle-distance and marathon runner.[1] She competed at the [1984 Summer Olympics](/source/1984_Summer_Olympics) while still a schoolgirl at the [Sing'ore Girls' Secondary School](/source/Sing'ore_Girls'_Secondary_School) in [Iten](/source/Iten).

She won women's [800 metres](/source/800_metres) at the [1986 World Junior Championships in Athletics](/source/1986_World_Junior_Championships_in_Athletics) and finished second in 1500 metres.[2] The next year she won two gold medals (800 and [1500 metres](/source/1500_metres)) at the [1987 All-Africa Games](/source/Athletics_at_the_1987_All-Africa_Games), held in [Nairobi](/source/Nairobi), Kenya. At the [1987 World Championships](/source/1987_World_Championships_in_Athletics) she failed to make the final. At the [1996 Summer Olympics](/source/1996_Summer_Olympics) she represented Kenya at marathon, but did not finish. Her marathon record, 2:32:36, was run at the [Houston Marathon](/source/Houston_Marathon) in January, 1996.

In 1998, she won the [San Francisco Marathon](/source/San_Francisco_Marathon).[3] She was still active in 2000 when she won the Trinidad and Tobago Marathon.[4]
