For the play by Robert Greene, see [Selimus (play)](/source/Selimus_(play)).

***Selimus*** is a [monotypic](/source/Monotypic_taxon) [genus](/source/Genus) of Brazilian [jumping spiders](/source/Salticidae) containing the single species, ***Selimus venustus***. It was first described by [George and Elizabeth Peckham](/source/George_and_Elizabeth_Peckham) in 1901,[2] known from a single male found in [Brazil](/source/Brazil).[1] The species name is derived from [Latin](/source/Latin) *venustus* "charming".[2]

In 2006 Michael Saaristo erroneously erected a genus of the same name in the family [Theridiidae](/source/Theridiidae) for the species *[Anelosimus placens](/source/Anelosimus_placens)*.
