The **Security Belt Forces** ([Arabic](/source/Arabic_Language): قوات الحزام الأمني) was a paramilitary force based in Southern [Yemen](/source/Yemen) that formed the elite military wing of the [Southern Transitional Council](/source/Southern_Transitional_Council).[1] The force operated in the governorates of [Aden](/source/Aden_Governorate), [Lahij](/source/Lahij_Governorate) and [Abyan](/source/Abyan_Governorate) and was trained and heavily supported by the [United Arab Emirates Armed Forces](/source/United_Arab_Emirates_Armed_Forces).[2] The Security Belt fought against [Islah](/source/Al-Islah_(Yemen)), [al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula](/source/Al-Qaeda_in_the_Arabian_Peninsula) and the [Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant’s](/source/Islamic_State_of_Iraq_and_the_Levant) [Yemeni branch](/source/Islamic_State_of_Iraq_and_the_Levant_%E2%80%93_Yemen_Province).[3]

In the [Battle of Aden (2018)](/source/Battle_of_Aden_(2018)), Mount Hadid, which was under control of troops led by Major General [Aidarus al-Zoubaidi](/source/Aidarus_al-Zoubaidi), came under attack by pro-Hadi government forces. The Security Belt consolidated its force in Aden and established the city as its central command.[4]

According to reporting by [The Associated Press](/source/The_Associated_Press), Security Belt forces provided security for [Beir Ahmed](/source/Beir_Ahmed) prison in Aden, which has reportedly been the site of extensive torture and human rights violations.[5][6]
