***Secrets of the Code*** is a [2006](/source/2006_in_film) [documentary](/source/Documentary_film) based on Dan Burstein's *[New York Times](/source/New_York_Times)* best-seller of the same name[1] in which experts explore topics put forth by Dan Brown's novel *[The Da Vinci Code](/source/The_Da_Vinci_Code)*. *[New Yorker](/source/The_New_Yorker)* essayist [Arthur Krystal](/source/Arthur_Krystal)[2] assisted Burstein in writing the film, which was directed by [Emmy Award](/source/Emmy_Award) winner [Jonathan Stack](/source/Jonathan_Stack), produced by Alchemist Films, LLC, and distributed by [Sony](/source/Sony) Pictures.[3][4]

The film is narrated by actress [Susan Sarandon](/source/Susan_Sarandon), with commentary by religious experts and authors [Timothy Freke](/source/Timothy_Freke), [Richard Leigh](/source/Richard_Leigh_(author)), [Sean Martin](/source/Sean_Martin_(writer_and_director)) and [Elaine Pagels](/source/Elaine_Pagels).

The film has been described as having unusually high visual quality, spectacular imagery and an excellent review of the issues.[4]
