== Early life and career ==
Lang-Lessing was born in [Gelsenkirchen](/source/Gelsenkirchen), [North Rhine-Westphalia](/source/North_Rhine-Westphalia), [Germany](/source/Germany). His father was a [pediatrician](/source/pediatrics), and his mother was a [physical therapist](/source/physical_therapy). Lang-Lessing received the Ferenc Fricsay Award at age 24.  He started his career at the [Hamburg State Opera](/source/Hamburg_State_Opera) as an assistant conductor.  He subsequently became resident conductor at the [Deutsche Oper Berlin](/source/Deutsche_Oper_Berlin).
