# Sebas Saiz

**Juan Sebastián "Sebas" Saiz Soto** (born 15 July 1994) is a Spanish professional [basketball player](/source/Basketball_player) for [Alvark Tokyo](/source/Alvark_Tokyo) of the Japanese [B.League](/source/B.League). He also holds [Dominican](/source/Dominican_Republic) citizenship.[1]

## Early years

Saiz, whose father is Spanish and his mother is from [Dominican Republic](/source/Dominican_Republic),[2] started playing basketball at the youth teams of [Real Madrid](/source/Real_Madrid_Baloncesto), until transferring to CB Talavera for personal reasons. In 2009, he passed the trials to join [Estudiantes](/source/CB_Estudiantes), where he made his debut in senior competitions, playing in some [Liga EBA](/source/Liga_EBA) games in 2011, at age 16.

## High school and college career

Saiz moved in 2012 to the United States to continue his basketball career,[3] and in 2013 he joined the [Ole Miss Rebels](/source/Ole_Miss_Rebels), averaging 5.1 points and 5.6 rebounds per game in his first season. He ended his college years becoming only the second player in school history after [Murphy Holloway](/source/Murphy_Holloway) to surpass 1,000 points and 900 rebounds and was included in the All-Conference first team of the [Southeastern Conference](/source/2016%E2%80%9317_Southeastern_Conference_men's_basketball_season).[4]

## Professional career

In July 2017, Saiz signed his first professional contract with [Real Madrid](/source/Real_Madrid_Baloncesto), terminating previously with Estudiantes. One month later, he was loaned to [San Pablo Burgos](/source/CB_Miraflores), debutant in the Spanish [Liga ACB](/source/Liga_ACB),[5] where he averaged 9.1 points and 4.9 rebounds per game.

In July 2018, he was loaned to [Iberostar Tenerife](/source/CB_1939_Canarias) of the Liga ACB.[6] He will make his debut in European competition as the Canarian team is qualified for the [Basketball Champions League](/source/2018%E2%80%9319_Basketball_Champions_League).

On August 1, 2019, Saiz signed with [Sun Rockers Shibuya](/source/Sun_Rockers_Shibuya) of the [B.League](/source/B.League).[7]

On June 4, 2020, Saiz signed with [Chiba Jets](/source/Chiba_Jets) of the B.League.[8]

On June 10, 2021, Saiz signed with [Alvark Tokyo](/source/Alvark_Tokyo) of the B.League.[9] On June 21, 2022, he re-signed with Alvark Tokyo.[10] On June 14, 2023, he re-signed with Alvark Tokyo.[11] On June 12, 2024, he re-signed with Alvark Tokyo.[12]

## International career

Saiz played with the Spanish youth teams, taking part of the [under-19 team](/source/Spain_national_under-20_basketball_team) that finished in the fifth position at the [2013 World Championship](/source/2013_FIBA_Under-19_World_Championship).[13]

With the [under-20 team](/source/Spain_national_under-20_basketball_team) the [European Championship](/source/FIBA_Europe_Under-20_Championship), achieving a bronze medal in [2013](/source/2013_FIBA_Europe_Under-20_Championship) and a silver one in [2014](/source/2014_FIBA_Europe_Under-20_Championship).

He made his debut with [Spain](/source/Spain_national_basketball_team) in November 2017, at the [2019 World Cup qualifying](/source/2019_FIBA_Basketball_World_Cup_qualification_(Europe)) match played in [Podgorica](/source/Podgorica) against [Montenegro](/source/Montenegro_national_basketball_team).
