{{As of|2005}}, the core members are Laura DeLuca ([clarinet](/source/clarinet)), David Sabee ([cello](/source/cello)), Mikhail Shmidt ([violin](/source/violin)), and Paul Taub ([flute](/source/flute)). DeLuca, Sabee, and Schmidt are members of the [Seattle Symphony](/source/Seattle_Symphony) (SSO); Shmidt is also a former member of the [Moscow State Symphony](/source/Moscow_State_Symphony); Taub is a professor of music at [Cornish College of the Arts](/source/Cornish_College_of_the_Arts). Other players are brought into the orchestra for specific performances. For example, a series of performances of [Ástor Piazzolla](/source/%C3%81stor_Piazzolla)'s [tango](/source/Tango_music) [opera](/source/opera) during the 2004&ndash;2006 season featured [Uruguay](/source/Uruguay)an [pianist](/source/piano) and [conductor](/source/orchestra_conductor) [Pablo Zinger](/source/Pablo_Zinger), Russian [bandoneon](/source/bandoneon)ist Alexander Mitenev, [Venezuela](/source/Venezuela)n [tenor](/source/tenor) [Leonardo Granadas](/source/Leonardo_Granadas), Argentine tango vocalist [Katie Viquiera](/source/Katie_Viquiera), [Slovene](/source/Slovenia) [accordion](/source/accordion)ist [Borut Zagoranski](/source/Borut_Zagoranski), and [Welsh](/source/Wales) guitarist [Michael Partington](/source/Michael_Partington).

[Russia](/source/Russia)n [musicologist](/source/musicology) Elena Dubinets, music research coordinator for the SSO, joined the ensemble in 2002 as artistic advisor, and has been largely responsible for transforming them from a local to an international institution, hosting international festivals such as ''Icebreaker I: Voices from New Russia'' (2004) and ''Icebreaker II: Baltic Voices'' (2004); the planned ''Icebreaker III'' (2006) will feature music from the countries of the [Caucasus](/source/Caucasus).
