**Sean Romans** (born 27 July 1985 in [Christchurch](/source/Christchurch), [New Zealand](/source/New_Zealand)) is a retired [rugby union](/source/Rugby_union) player who played at [scrum-half](/source/Scrum-half_(rugby_union)) for [Nottingham](/source/Nottingham_R.F.C.).[1] He previously played for the [Highlanders](/source/Highlanders_(rugby)) and [Otago](/source/Otago_Rugby_Football_Union).

## Playing career

### Provincial Rugby

Romans made his debut for [Otago](/source/Otago_Rugby_Football_Union) in the [2007 Air New Zealand Cup](/source/2007_Air_New_Zealand_Cup) and emerged as a regular for the [2008 Air New Zealand Cup](/source/2008_Air_New_Zealand_Cup). For the [2009 Air New Zealand Cup](/source/2009_Air_New_Zealand_Cup), Romans was named [vice-captain](/source/Captain_(sports)) of the squad.

Romans is a second-generation member of the Otago side, following in the footsteps of his father Mark.

### Super Rugby

On the back of his showings for Otago in the [Air New Zealand Cup](/source/Air_New_Zealand_Cup), Romans earned a contract with the [Highlanders](/source/Highlanders_(rugby)) for the [2009 Super 14 season](/source/2009_Super_14_season) to serve as a backup to team [captain](/source/Captain_(sports)) and [All Black](/source/All_Black) [Jimmy Cowan](/source/Jimmy_Cowan).

### International Play

Romans was selected for the [Junior All Blacks](/source/Junior_All_Blacks) for the [2009 IRB Pacific Nations Cup](/source/2009_IRB_Pacific_Nations_Cup), where he came on as a substitute against [Samoa](/source/Samoa_national_rugby_union_team) and started in a 52-21 victory over [Japan](/source/Japan_national_rugby_union_team).
