**Sean Parrish** (born 14 March 1972) is a Welsh [footballer](/source/Association_football) who played as a [midfielder](/source/Midfielder). His last first-team coaching role was at [Shrewsbury Town](/source/Shrewsbury_Town_F.C.).

He played in [the Football League](/source/English_Football_League) for Shrewsbury Town, [Doncaster Rovers](/source/Doncaster_Rovers_F.C.), [Northampton Town](/source/Northampton_Town_F.C.), [Chesterfield](/source/Chesterfield_F.C.) and [Kidderminster Harriers](/source/Kidderminster_Harriers_F.C.). He won promotion from the [fourth tier](/source/EFL_League_Two) with Northampton in 1997 and Chesterfield in 2001.

As a coach, Parrish held positions at his former clubs Shrewsbury Town and [AFC Telford United](/source/AFC_Telford_United), including as caretaker manager at both. He also worked for several years in the youth ranks of [Wolverhampton Wanderers](/source/Wolverhampton_Wanderers_F.C.).

## Playing career

Parrish began his career at [Shrewsbury Town](/source/Shrewsbury_Town) but played only a handful of games before joining non-league club [Telford United](/source/Telford_United_F.C.). He moved to [Doncaster Rovers](/source/Doncaster_Rovers) in 1994 before joining [Northampton Town](/source/Northampton_Town) two years later, for a fee of £35,000.[2]

On 11 May 1997, Parrish scored the only goal of a Division Three play-off semi-final away to [Cardiff City](/source/Cardiff_City_F.C.), advancing down the centre of the pitch from inside his own half before executing a lob over [Steve Williams](/source/Steve_Williams_(footballer%2C_born_1974)).[3] Thirteen days later he played in the [final](/source/1997_Football_League_Third_Division_play-off_final), won by a single goal against another Welsh club [Swansea City](/source/Swansea_City_A.F.C.).[4] He was part of the team that reached the Division Two play-off final the following season.

He then joined [Chesterfield](/source/Chesterfield_F.C.) in 2000, where he won promotion in his first season but was limited by injury in his second.[2] In 2002, he turned down a one-year extension at the Spireites to join [Kidderminster Harriers](/source/Kidderminster_Harriers) on a two-year deal as manager [Ian Britton](/source/Ian_Britton_(English_footballer))'s first signing.[2]

Parrish joined the reformed [AFC Telford United](/source/A.F.C._Telford_United) in 2004. In his first season back at the [New Bucks Head](/source/New_Bucks_Head), he scored the winning goal against [Kendal Town](/source/Kendal_Town_F.C.) in the playoff final to achieve promotion to the [Northern Premier League](/source/Northern_Premier_League) Premier Division. He [captained](/source/Captain_(association_football)) the club, made 115 appearances across both entities, and was inducted into the Bucks Hall of Fame in 2010.[5]

## Coaching career

Parrish was the caretaker manager at AFC Telford United in 2006, between the tenures of [Bernard McNally](/source/Bernard_McNally) and Rob Smith.[6] In 2010, he was academy head at [Northampton Town](/source/Northampton_Town_F.C.).[5] He returned to AFC Telford United in 2017 as assistant manager on a voluntary basis, serving under his cousin [Rob Edwards](/source/Rob_Edwards_(footballer%2C_born_1982)).[7][8]

After spending five years as an assistant manager at [Wolverhampton Wanderers](/source/Wolverhampton_Wanderers_F.C.) under-23 side, Parrish returned to Shrewsbury Town as first-team coach under head coach [Matt Taylor](/source/Matt_Taylor_(footballer%2C_born_1982)) in July 2023.[9] When [Paul Hurst](/source/Paul_Hurst) was sacked on 3 November 2024, Parrish assumed the role of caretaker head coach for the first team;[8] he lost away to relegation rivals [Burton Albion](/source/Burton_Albion) in [EFL League One](/source/EFL_League_One) and to [Walsall](/source/Walsall_F.C.) in the [EFL Trophy](/source/EFL_Trophy) before the appointment of [Gareth Ainsworth](/source/Gareth_Ainsworth).[10][11]

## Personal life

Parrish is the cousin of fellow former footballer and coach [Rob Edwards](/source/Rob_Edwards_(footballer%2C_born_1982)).[12]
