German political organisation

Hotel Kaiserhof, Berlin

The **SeSiSo Club** was a political and cultural discussion group in [Berlin](/source/Berlin) in the 1920s. Its members were of diverse political affiliations.[1] The club had no official existence; its name was derived from the surnames of its chairmen, [Hans von Seeckt](/source/Hans_von_Seeckt), [Walter Simons](/source/Walter_Simons), and [Wilhelm Solf](/source/Wilhelm_Solf).[2]

The club's values were [enlightenment](/source/Age_of_Enlightenment) and [humanism](/source/Humanism). Meetings took place in the [Hotel Kaiserhof](/source/Hotel_Kaiserhof_(Berlin)) with up to 400 participants, often members of the [elite](/source/Elite), discussing the issues of the time. The first meeting was on 2 January 1922, and the club continued into the 1930s.[3]

Guests included [Harry Graf Kessler](/source/Harry_Graf_Kessler), [Otto Hoetzsch](/source/Otto_Hoetzsch), [Richard von Coudenhove-Kalergi](/source/Richard_von_Coudenhove-Kalergi), [Sir Horace Rumbold](/source/Sir_Horace_Rumbold%2C_9th_Baronet) (when he was British ambassador in Berlin), [Ernst von Harnack](/source/Ernst_von_Harnack), [Arthur Zarden](/source/Arthur_Zarden), [Kurt von Hammerstein-Equord](/source/Kurt_von_Hammerstein-Equord), and [Paul Wolff Metternich](/source/Paul_Wolff_Metternich).

Although the club had little political influence, during the time of [National Socialism](/source/National_Socialism), some of its members joined various resistance groups, including the [Solf Circle](/source/Solf_Circle).[3]

## Bethmann Dinner

On 29 November 1921, Seeckt, Simons, and Solf entertained [Walther Rathenau](/source/Walther_Rathenau) and Kurt von Hammerstein-Equord to dinner in honour of Chancellor [Theobald von Bethmann-Hollweg](/source/Theobald_von_Bethmann-Hollweg), who had died on 1 January 1921, and whose birthday was on 29 November. The SeSiSo Club continued the tradition of a gala Bethmann Dinner every 29 November.
