# Sd Laika

**Peter Runge** (died 2023), known by his recording alias **Sd Laika**, was an American [electronic](/source/Electronic_music) recording artist. His only studio album, *[That's Harakiri](/source/That's_Harakiri)*, was released in 2014 through [Tri Angle](/source/Tri_Angle_(record_label)).[3]

## Biography

Peter Runge was originally from [Milwaukee](/source/Milwaukee), [Wisconsin](/source/Wisconsin).[3] He attended [Wauwatosa East High School](/source/Wauwatosa_East_High_School) in [Wauwatosa, Wisconsin](/source/Wauwatosa,_Wisconsin) and [Oberlin College](/source/Oberlin_College) in [Oberlin, Ohio](/source/Oberlin,_Ohio).[4]

He had previously recorded and performed music under various monikers, such as *Birth-Days* and *Trail Magic.*[5][4]

He released his first work, the *Unknown Vectors* [EP](/source/Extended_play) in 2012 via Lost Codes. This was the first release for the [London](/source/London)-based label founded by [grime](/source/Grime_music) producer Visionist.[6][7]

He was later approached by Robin Carolan to release a full album through his UK/US label [Tri Angle](/source/Tri_Angle_(record_label)), which resulted in Runge gathering tracks mainly created during 2011 to 2012 to form his 2014 debut album *[That's Harakiri](/source/That's_Harakiri)*. This release gained him a wider audience including reviews from *[Pitchfork](/source/Pitchfork_(website))*, *[Resident Advisor](/source/Resident_Advisor)*, and *[The Quietus](/source/The_Quietus)*. This album covered many different [genres](/source/Music_genre), but was described variously as experimental [grime](/source/Grime_(music_genre)) and [bass music](/source/Bass_music).[8][9][10][11] *Dummy* magazine named it their album of the week.[12] In a rare interview later that year, highly influential electronic producer [Aphex Twin](/source/Aphex_Twin) named Sd Laika as one of the newer artists he listened to most.[13]

His work was sampled by Aphex Twin on his tour in 2017,[14] by [Björk](/source/Bj%C3%B6rk) in her November 2017 mix for *[Mixmag](/source/Mixmag)*,[15] and by Manchester producer Acre in his mix for *[Fact](/source/Fact_(UK_magazine))* in January 2018.[16]

In July 2024, it was confirmed that Runge had died in 2023. No explanation for his death was given.[2]
