It was described by [Michael Rogers Oldfield Thomas](/source/Oldfield_Thomas) in 1898. It is [monotypic](/source/monotypic) within the [genus](/source/genus) '''''Glyphotes'''''.<ref name=adw/> It is [endemic](/source/endemism) to northern [Borneo](/source/Borneo) in [Sabah](/source/Sabah) and [Sarawak](/source/Sarawak) ([Malaysia](/source/Malaysia)) and inhabits areas elevated at {{convert|285|–|1800|m}}.<ref name=IUCN/>

The body is {{convert|95|to|145|mm}} long, and the tail length is approximately 100&nbsp;mm. The chest, undersurface, sides of the nose, margins of the ears and dorsal surface of the digits are yellow, whereas the tip of the tail is black.<ref name="Nowak1999"/>
