# Scrubbing Bubbles

**Scrubbing Bubbles** is the brand name of a [bathroom cleaner](/source/Toilet_cleaner) produced by [S. C. Johnson & Son](/source/S._C._Johnson_%26_Son). The product was originally named **Dow Bathroom Cleaner** after the [Dow Chemical Company](/source/Dow_Chemical_Company), its manufacturer at the time. After some consumer product lines were sold to S.C. Johnson in 1997, the product had to be [rebranded](/source/Rebranded) and took the name of the product's longtime "Scrubbing Bubbles" [mascots](/source/Mascot) (smiling [anthropomorphic](/source/Anthropomorphic) [soap bubbles](/source/Liquid_bubble) with [brush](/source/Brush) [bristles](/source/Bristles) on their undersides creating a mass of [suds](/source/Suds_(foam))).

## History

In the 1970s, the voice of the leader of the Scrubbing Bubbles in popular commercials for the product was [Paul Winchell](/source/Paul_Winchell) (best known as the voice of [Tigger](/source/Tigger) in [Winnie the Pooh](/source/Winnie_the_Pooh) cartoons). The bubble leader returned with the name "Scrubby" in future commercials.[1] The animation for the commercials was done by [Tissa David](/source/Tissa_David), a female pioneer in animation. The [ad campaign](/source/Ad_campaign) was created by the [advertising agency](/source/Advertising_agency) of [Della Femina Travisano and Partners](/source/Della_Femina_Travisano_and_Partners).

In 1995, pranksters at [MIT](/source/Massachusetts_Institute_of_Technology) placed 3D replicas of the Scrubbing Bubbles characters[2] on the outside of the windows of the school's [Media Lab](/source/MIT_Media_Lab) building to celebrate the lab's tenth anniversary.
