# Scrobipalpa acuminatella

***Scrobipalpa acuminatella*** is a [moth](/source/Moth) of the family [Gelechiidae](/source/Gelechiidae). It is found in most of [Europe](/source/Europe), as well as [Turkey](/source/Turkey), southern [Siberia](/source/Siberia), [Central Asia](/source/Central_Asia)[1] ([Afghanistan](/source/Afghanistan), northern [Iran](/source/Iran), western [Kazakhstan](/source/Kazakhstan)) and [China](/source/China) ([Anhui](/source/Anhui)).[2] It was recently reported from [Canada](/source/Canada), with records from [Ontario](/source/Ontario) and [Québec](/source/Qu%C3%A9bec).[3]

The [wingspan](/source/Wingspan) is 10.5–14.5 mm (0.41–0.57 in). Terminal joint of palpi shorter than second. Forewings pointed, especially in female rather dark fuscous, paler-sprinkled, often ochreous- mixed in disc, sometimes with a few blackish scales posteriorly; stigmata darker, indistinct, first discal beyond plical; traces of pale fascia at 3/4 faintly perceptible. Hindwings over 1, light grey, sometimes darker posteriorly. The larva is grey-greenish; dots black; head brown; 2 pale brown, with two blackish spots.[4][5][6][7]

The moths are on wing from April to August depending on the location.

The larvae feed on *[Carduus](/source/Carduus)* and *[Cirsium](/source/Cirsium)* species, but also [Cotton thistle](/source/Cotton_thistle), *[Artemisia](/source/Artemisia_(genus))* species and *[Serratula tinctoria](/source/Serratula_tinctoria)*.
