== Political career ==
Nein was encouraged by [John Boehner](/source/John_Boehner) to run for the [Ohio House of Representatives](/source/Ohio_House_of_Representatives) to succeed him in 1990.<ref>[https://news.google.com/newspapers?id=yoQ_AAAAIBAJ&sjid=SFUMAAAAIBAJ&pg=6514,1592252&dq=scott+nein+ohio&hl=en Insurance agent seeks House seat]</ref>  He did so and won the seat.  He won reelection in 1992 and 1994. By his third term Nein was serving as majority floor leader of the House.{{Citation needed|date=November 2020}}

When Senator [Barry Levey](/source/Barry_Levey) resigned from the [Ohio Senate](/source/Ohio_Senate) in 1995, Nein was appointed to replace him.  He resigned his seat in the House and took the seat in the Senate in the same day.
