## Early life

Innes was born on October 1, 1966, in [Poplar Bluff](/source/Poplar_Bluff%2C_Missouri), [Missouri](/source/Missouri).[1][3] At a young age, realizing his ability to mimic voices, he recognized his passion for doing cartoon voices, including the cartoon character [Scooby-Doo](/source/Scooby-Doo_(character)) (whom Innes became a fan in the early 1970s). Innes would listen to the actors performing the voices, determine how they created them, and learn how to do it himself.[4][5][6][7] He would also recreate scenes from the series in his head at night to make himself fall asleep.[4][5][6]

## Career

Innes became a [radio personality](/source/Radio_personality) at age 12, conducting interviews with cartoon voice acting giants like [Don Messick](/source/Don_Messick) (the voice of Scooby-Doo, among others), [Daws Butler](/source/Daws_Butler) (the voice of [Yogi Bear](/source/Yogi_Bear) and [Huckleberry Hound](/source/Huckleberry_Hound), among others), and [Mel Blanc](/source/Mel_Blanc) (the voice of [Bugs Bunny](/source/Bugs_Bunny), [Yosemite Sam](/source/Yosemite_Sam), and others).[8][9] In 1980, Innes became a [disc jockey](/source/Disc_jockey) at age 14, debuting on [KLID](/source/KLID) in [Poplar Bluff, Missouri](/source/Poplar_Bluff%2C_Missouri).[10][11] In 1990, he started working as a morning announcer for [WABB-FM](/source/WABD). During his spare time, he would imitate famous people over the intercommunications system, delighting employees at the station. He was later fired in order[*[clarification needed](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Please_clarify)*] for him to expand his vocal abilities.[*[citation needed](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Citation_needed)*]

In 1991–1996, Innes was the host of *Innes and Company* on [KKHT-FM](/source/KKHT-FM) in [Springfield, Illinois](/source/Springfield%2C_Illinois). He created "Dear Daddy: The Wind Beneath My Wings", a remix of "[Wind Beneath My Wings](/source/Wind_Beneath_My_Wings#Bette_Midler_version)" by [Bette Midler](/source/Bette_Midler), featuring his son Josh Innes. The song was played as a requested track on more than 400 radio stations in the US.[12] Innes also co-ran *[American Top 40](/source/American_Top_40)* with [Casey Kasem](/source/Casey_Kasem), the voice of [Norville "Shaggy" Rogers](/source/Shaggy_Rogers) in *Scooby-Doo*, whom Innes imitated when listening to him do the character's voice.[8][7] He also tried his Scooby imitation, to which Messick told him, "You've got that Scooby down."[13]

In 1996, Innes and Jim Hogg created *Hollywood Hal and Rhinestone Al With the Wannabees*, a show aimed at pre-kindergarteners that taught them about manners, safety, sharing, love, staying away from [drugs](/source/Illicit_drugs), and other values.[14][15][8] In 1997, Innes started working as the morning host of [WRQQ](/source/WRQQ) and as the afternoon air personality at the country radio station [WYNK-FM](/source/WYNK-FM), both in [Baton Rouge, Louisiana](/source/Baton_Rouge%2C_Louisiana). At the former station, he performed "Shaggy on the Boulevard", a remix of "[Dancin', Shaggin' on the Boulevard](/source/Dancin'%2C_Shaggin'_on_the_Boulevard)" by [Alabama](/source/Alabama_(band)) but sung in Shaggy's voice. Following Don Messick's retirement and death and Casey Kasem quitting the role of Shaggy, Innes became the voice of both Scooby-Doo and Shaggy between 1998 and 2001, beginning with the film *[Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island](/source/Scooby-Doo_on_Zombie_Island)* (Scooby) and the television special *[Scooby-Doo: Behind the Scenes](/source/Scooby-Doo%3A_Behind_the_Scenes)* (Shaggy); Innes also voiced Shaggy in promotions for said film.[13][8][12][9][16] He continued to voice Scooby and Shaggy in 2002–2009 in most video games, PC games, toys, and commercials. Since 2010, he has been sporadically voicing the characters for toys, certain commercials such as [McDonald's](/source/McDonald's), the bank [Halifax](/source/Halifax_(bank)),[17][18] and [Walmart](/source/Walmart), as well as *[Scooby-Doo! The Museum of Mysteries](/source/Warner_Bros._World_Abu_Dhabi)* at [Warner Bros. World Abu Dhabi](/source/Warner_Bros._World_Abu_Dhabi),[19] and in the *Scooby-Doo* [Playmobil](/source/Playmobil) shorts for WB Kids. In the Playmobil shorts and one of the McDonald's commercials, he also provided the voice of [Fred Jones](/source/Fred_Jones_(Scooby-Doo)). Innes has also voiced Scooby's nephew, [Scrappy-Doo](/source/Scrappy-Doo), in the live-action film *[Scooby-Doo](/source/Scooby-Doo_(film))* (2002),[5] the television special *[The Scooby-Doo Project](/source/The_Scooby-Doo_Project)*, video games, commercials, theme park attractions, toys, and the *[Harvey Birdman, Attorney at Law](/source/Harvey_Birdman%2C_Attorney_at_Law)* episode "Shaggy Busted".

Innes voiced [Astro](/source/Astro_(The_Jetsons)) from *[The Jetsons](/source/The_Jetsons)* in a series of [RadioShack](/source/RadioShack) commercials in the late 1990s, and [Fred Flintstone](/source/Fred_Flintstone) and [Barney Rubble](/source/Barney_Rubble) in a [Toshiba](/source/Toshiba) commercial in 2002. He has briefly voiced other characters, including those by Daws Butler and Mel Blanc whom he had interviewed as a youngster: [Yogi Bear](/source/Yogi_Bear), [Boo-Boo Bear](/source/Boo-Boo_Bear), [Ranger Smith](/source/Ranger_Smith), [Wally Gator](/source/Wally_Gator), [Quick Draw McGraw](/source/Quick_Draw_McGraw), [Bugs Bunny](/source/Bugs_Bunny), [Elmer Fudd](/source/Elmer_Fudd), [Foghorn Leghorn](/source/Foghorn_Leghorn), [Muttley](/source/Muttley), [Professor Pat Pending](/source/Professor_Pat_Pending), [Snagglepuss](/source/Snagglepuss), [Captain Caveman](/source/Captain_Caveman), [Shag Rugg](/source/The_Hillbilly_Bears), [Droopy](/source/Droopy) and [Papa Smurf](/source/Papa_Smurf).[10][8][20][21] Innes auditioned to voice Yogi and Boo-Boo for the film *[Yogi Bear](/source/Yogi_Bear_(film))* (2010) but lost to [Dan Aykroyd](/source/Dan_Aykroyd) and [Justin Timberlake](/source/Justin_Timberlake).[6] He also auditioned to return as Shaggy for the television series *[Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated](/source/Scooby-Doo!_Mystery_Incorporated)* but lost the role to [Matthew Lillard](/source/Matthew_Lillard), who previously portrayed Shaggy in the 2002 film and its sequel *[Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed](/source/Scooby-Doo_2%3A_Monsters_Unleashed)* (2004).

In 2003, Innes wrote the song "Handprints on the Wall", which was performed by [Kenny Rogers](/source/Kenny_Rogers).[10] He is currently the publisher and author of *Hug Magazine* since 2010.[22] In October 2011, he was fired from WYNK-FM as part of a new programming strategy and staff changes by [Clear Channel Radio](/source/IHeartMedia).[23][24] On April 21, 2016, he joined nearby station [WRKN](/source/WZRH) in the same position of afternoon air personality.[25]

## Personal life

Innes married his first wife, Jodie, on October 30, 1998. They divorced in 2014; together they have a son, Presley.[26] Innes also has an older son named Josh, who works as a sports radio talk host in [Houston](/source/Houston), [Texas](/source/Texas).[11][27][28] Innes married his second wife, Cindy Harris, in September 2016.[1]
