'''Schlat''' is a municipality in the district of [Göppingen](/source/G%C3%B6ppingen_(district)) in [Baden-Württemberg](/source/Baden-W%C3%BCrttemberg), [Germany](/source/Germany).

==History==
Schlat changed owners several times during the [Middle Ages](/source/Middle_Ages). Barbara von Schlat, a local noblewoman, sold a third of the town in 1410 to [Adelberg Abbey](/source/Adelberg_Abbey), which already controlled nearby properties donated to it by the [County of Württemberg](/source/County_of_W%C3%BCrttemberg). The other two thirds of the town were inherited by the {{ill|House of Liebenstein|de|Liebenstein (Adelsgeschlecht)}}. As a result of the [Protestant Reformation](/source/Protestant_Reformation) in the [Holy Roman Empire](/source/Holy_Roman_Empire), Adelberg Abbey was secularized and its holdings seized by the [Duchy of Württemberg](/source/Duchy_of_W%C3%BCrttemberg), which purchased the Liebenstein's portion of Schlat in 1789. The portions of Schlat were until 1807 divided between a district based out of the old abbey and {{ill|Oberamt Göppingen|de}}. The Oberamt was reorganized as a [Landkreis](/source/Districts_of_Germany) in 1938 and Schlat remained in its jurisdiction. The town [grew](/source/Urban_sprawl) after [World War II](/source/World_War_II) to its east and south.<ref name=LEO-BW>{{cite web|title=Schlat|url=https://www.leo-bw.de/web/guest/detail-gis/-/Detail/details/ORT/labw_ortslexikon/814/Schlat|website=[LEO-BW](/source/LEO-BW)|publisher=[Baden-Württemberg](/source/Baden-W%C3%BCrttemberg)|language=de|accessdate=29 July 2020}}</ref>
