# Scarthyla

***Scarthyla*** is a [genus](/source/Genus) of tree frogs, the family [Hylidae](/source/Hylidae).[1][2][3] They are found in the upper [Amazon Basin](/source/Amazon_basin) of Bolivia, Peru, and Brazil and northward through Colombia and Venezuela to the Caribbean lowlands. They are sometimes known as **Madre de Dios treefrogs** and **South American aquatic treefrogs**.[1] They are semiaquatic.[3]

## Species

The genus contains two species:[1][2]

- *[Scarthyla goinorum](/source/Scarthyla_goinorum)* — Tarauaca snouted treefrog, Madre de Dios treefrog
- *[Scarthyla vigilans](/source/Scarthyla_vigilans)* — Maracaibo Basin treefrog
