==History==
Sayers was established after the [Civil War](/source/American_Civil_War). A post office was established in Sayers in 1885. Fifty people were living in Sayers in 1896, while there were two general stores and a church. The [Adkins](/source/Adkins%2C_Texas) post office was moved to Sayers, and the postal area was named Adkins. Sayers is located at the intersection of [U.S. Route 87](/source/U.S._Route_87_in_Texas) and [FM 1628](/source/Farm_to_Market_Road_1628), {{convert|13|mi|km|abbr=on}} southeast of Downtown [San Antonio](/source/San_Antonio) in eastern Bexar County.<ref name="Handbook"/>

Sayers had its own school in 1896.<ref name="Handbook"/> Today, the community is served by the [East Central Independent School District](/source/East_Central_Independent_School_District). Salem-Sayers Baptist School also serves the community.

The film [Sugarland Express](/source/Sugarland_Express), which is based on the true story of Sayers residents, was filmed in and around Sayers.
