**Savignone** ([Ligurian](/source/Ligurian_language): *Savignon*) is a *[comune](/source/Comune)* (municipality) in the [Metropolitan City of Genoa](/source/Metropolitan_City_of_Genoa) in the [Italian](/source/Italy) region [Liguria](/source/Liguria), located about 15 kilometres (9 mi) north of [Genoa](/source/Genoa).

Savignone borders the following municipalities: [Busalla](/source/Busalla), [Casella](/source/Casella%2C_Liguria), [Crocefieschi](/source/Crocefieschi), [Mignanego](/source/Mignanego), [Serra Riccò](/source/Serra_Ricc%C3%B2), [Valbrevenna](/source/Valbrevenna).

## History

The area of Savignone was settled probably in the [Iron Age](/source/Iron_Age). In the Middle Ages it was a fief of [Tortona](/source/Tortona), and in 1242 it was acquired by the [Republic of Genoa](/source/Republic_of_Genoa) which entrusted it to the [Spinola family](/source/Spinola_family). Later it was under the [Fieschi](/source/Fieschi), who sold it back to Genoa in 1636. From 1815 it was part of the [Kingdom of Sardinia](/source/Kingdom_of_Sardinia), belonging to Italy from 1861.
