# Saudi Electronic University

The **Saudi Electronic University** (Arabic: الجامعة السعودية الإلكترونية), is a Saudi Arabian [university](/source/University) that grants both [undergraduate](/source/Undergraduate_degree) and [graduate degrees](/source/Graduate_degree).[2][3] It was established by [royal decree](/source/Royal_decree) on 8 October 2011 to provide a combination of online and regular education known as [blended learning](/source/Blended_learning).

In July 2020, Saudi Minister of Education, [Hamad bin Mohammed Al Al-Sheikh](/source/Hamad_bin_Mohammed_Al_Al-Sheikh), appointed Lilac AlSafadi as president of the Saudi Electronic University, to be the first female president of a Saudi university that includes students from both genders.[4]

## History

On October 8, 2011, King [Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz](/source/Abdullah_of_Saudi_Arabia) issued a [royal decree](/source/Royal_decree) to establish the *Saudi Electronic University* (SEU). This university will use the blended learning methods to offer both graduate and undergraduate degrees.[5] The system of the SEU was built collaboratively with: [University of Phoenix](/source/University_of_Phoenix), [Walden University](/source/Walden_University), [Capella University](/source/Capella_University), [eCampus Ohio University](/source/Ohio_University), [Franklin University](/source/Franklin_University).[6]
