# Saud Anwar

**M. Saud Anwar** (born October 5, 1967) is an American physician and politician who serves as a member of the [Connecticut State Senate](/source/Connecticut_State_Senate), representing the 3rd District.[1] The district includes the towns of [East Hartford](/source/East_Hartford,_Connecticut), [South Windsor](/source/South_Windsor,_Connecticut), [East Windsor](/source/East_Windsor,_Connecticut), and [Ellington](/source/Ellington,_Connecticut). A member of the [Democratic Party](/source/Democratic_Party_(United_States)), Anwar was previously the mayor of [South Windsor](/source/South_Windsor,_Connecticut), Connecticut from 2013 to 2015, as well as 2017 to 2019.[2] A pulmonary physician by profession,[3] he is a graduate of [Yale University](/source/Yale_University) and [Aga Khan University](/source/Aga_Khan_University). He has two children.[4]

He currently serves as deputy president pro tempore of the Senate and co-chairs the Public Health Committee along with Representative [Cristin McCarthy Vahey](/source/Cristin_McCarthy_Vahey). Additionally he is a vice chair of the Insurance and Real Estate Committee and a member of the Appropriations, Housing, and Human Services committees.[5]
