***Satyavan Savithri*** is a 1977 Indian [Malayalam](/source/Malayalam)-language [period drama](/source/Period_drama) film directed by [P. G. Viswambaran](/source/P._G._Viswambaran), starring [Kamal Haasan](/source/Kamal_Haasan) and [Sridevi](/source/Sridevi).[1][2][3][4] The film was also dubbed into [Tamil](/source/Tamil_language) with the same title and into [Telugu](/source/Telugu_language) as *Sathyavanthudu*.[5]

## Plot

*Satyavan Savithri* is based on the story of the *[Mahabharata](/source/Mahabharata)* character *[Savitri](/source/Savitri_and_Satyavan)*, a woman whose devotion matched Draupadi's as said by [Markandeya](/source/Markandeya) to [Yudhishthira](/source/Yudhishthira)'s query.
