Irish/British sailor

Saskia Tidey in 2024

**Saskia Tidey** (born 11 June 1993 in [Dublin](/source/Dublin), Ireland) is a sailor who has represented both Ireland and Great Britain in international sailing regattas.[1]

Tidey represented [Ireland](/source/Ireland_at_the_2016_Summer_Olympics) at the [2016 Summer Olympics](/source/2016_Summer_Olympics) in the [49er FX class](/source/Sailing_at_the_2016_Summer_Olympics).[2][3]

In January 2017, Tidey confirmed that she hoped to represent Great Britain at the [2020 Summer Olympics](/source/2020_Summer_Olympics) due to the retirement of sailing partner [Andrea Brewster](/source/Andrea_Brewster) and the unavailability of another suitable partner in Ireland for the 49er FX skiff event. She qualified to represent Great Britain through her British-born father Don Tidey. On 1 October, the [British Olympic Association](/source/British_Olympic_Association) confirmed that Tidey had been selected to represent Great Britain at the 2020 Summer Olympics in the 49er FX skiff class alongside [Charlotte Dobson](/source/Charlotte_Dobson).[4] They finished 6th in their event in Tokyo.[5]

With Dobson retiring after the Olympics, Tidey paired with [Freya Black](/source/Freya_Black) in the women's [49er FX](/source/49er_(dinghy)) in 2022.[6] The duo won gold at the Lanzarote International Regatta in February 2023.[7] They then finished fifth at the [2023 Sailing World Championships](/source/2023_Sailing_World_Championships) in [The Hague](/source/The_Hague), Netherlands, during the following month in a result which qualified the boat for the [2024 Summer Olympics](/source/2024_Summer_Olympics).[8]

In October 2023, Tidey's place at the Olympics in Paris was officially confirmed when the Great Britain sailing squad was announced by [Team GB](/source/Team_GB).[9][10]

Alongside Black, she came 14th at 49erFX World Championship in [Lanzarote](/source/Lanzarote), Spain, in March 2024.[11]

Tidey and Black took bronze at the [49er FX European Championship](/source/49er_%26_49er_FX_European_Championships) in [La Grande-Motte](/source/La_Grande-Motte), France, in May 2024.[12]

At the 2024 Olympics, Tidey and Black missed out on a place in the 10-boat medal race, finishing 16th.[13][14] She was a member of the team of women who competed for the Women's [America's Cup](/source/America's_Cup). Other team members were [Tash Bryant](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Tash_Bryant&action=edit&redlink=1), [Hattie Rogers](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Hattie_Rogers&action=edit&redlink=1), [Anna Burnet](/source/Anna_Burnet) and [Ellie Aldridge](/source/Ellie_Aldridge) and they were captained by [Hannah Mills](/source/Hannah_Mills).[15] The team made it through the heats and their boat [Athena Pathway](/source/Athena_Pathway) was beaten in the finals in October by the Italians.[16]
