# Sarge Connally

**George Walter "Sarge" Connally** (August 31, 1898 – January 27, 1978) was an American professional [baseball](/source/Baseball) [pitcher](/source/Pitcher) in [Major League Baseball](/source/Major_League_Baseball). He played for the [Chicago White Sox](/source/Chicago_White_Sox) and [Cleveland Indians](/source/Cleveland_Indians).[1]

Connally served in the [United States Marine Corps](/source/United_States_Marine_Corps) during [World War I](/source/World_War_I). He reportedly received a silver medal from the [United States Congress](/source/United_States_Congress) for saving the life of a drowning [fireman](/source/Fireman_(steam_engine)) from the [USS *Wyoming*](/source/USS_Wyoming) off the coast of [San Pedro, California](/source/San_Pedro,_California), in 1920.[2]
