'''Sapthagiri''', also called Edukondalu (ఏడుకొండలు) or [Tirumala Hill](/source/Tirumala_Hill), is a [hill range](/source/hill_range) situated in the [hill](/source/hill)y town of [Tirumala](/source/Tirumala), near [Tirupati](/source/Tirupati_(city)) in the [Tirupati district](/source/Tirupati_district) of [Andhra Pradesh](/source/Andhra_Pradesh), [India](/source/India). It is 853 m above sea level and is about {{convert|10.33|sqmi|km2|0}} in area. It comprises seven [summits](/source/summits), representing the seven heads of [Adisesha](/source/Adisesha), thus earning the name ''Seshachalam''. The seven peaks are named Seshadri, Neeladri, Garudadri, Anjanadri, Vrushabhadri, Narayanadri, and [Venkatadri](/source/Venkatadri). The hill is famous for the renowned holy [Hindu](/source/Hindu) [Venkateswara swamy](/source/Venkateswara) temple. The temple is on ''Venkatadri'' (also known as Venkatachala or Venkata Hill), the seventh peak, and is also known as the "Temple of Seven Hills". The presiding [deity](/source/deity) of the temple is Lord [Venkateswara](/source/Venkateswara), an [avatar](/source/avatar) of the Hindu god [Vishnu](/source/Vishnu). ==Seven Hills==
The seven hills, called as Saptagiri, represent the [Saptarishi](/source/Saptarishi) (seven sages) in [Hindu mythology](/source/Hindu_mythology). Hence, one of the names of Shri [Venkateshwara](/source/Venkateshwara) is Saptagirinivasa or Saptagirishwar. The following are the seven hills :

*Vrushabhadri – Hill named after an [Asura](/source/Asura) Vrushabha who undertook [tapa](/source/Tapas_(Indian_religions)) on Lord Srinivasa.
*Anjanadri – Hill named after Lord [Hanuman](/source/Hanuman). It is said that Hanuman's mother, Anjana Devi, did penance for 12 years here.
*Neeladri – Hill of Neela Devi.
