**Sanphebagar** is a [municipality](/source/List_of_cities_in_Nepal) in [Achham District](/source/Achham_District) in [Sudurpashchim Province](/source/Sudurpashchim_Province) of [Nepal](/source/Nepal) that was established on 18 May 2014 by merging the two former [Village development committees](/source/Village_development_committee_(Nepal)) [Baijinath](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Baijinath,_Achham&action=edit&redlink=1), [Jalapadevi](/source/Jalapadevi), [Siddheswar](/source/Siddheswor%2C_Achham), [Mastamandau](/source/Mastamandau), [Nawathana](/source/Nawathana), [Bhagyeshwar](/source/Bhagyeshwar), [Ridikot](/source/Ridikot), [Chandika](/source/Chandika%2C_Nepal).[1][2] It lies on the bank of [Budhi Ganga River](/source/Budhi_Ganga_River). At the time of the [2011 Nepal census](/source/2011_Nepal_census) it had a population of 33,788 people living in 6,693 individual households.[3] Sanphebagar is about 25 km north of the district headquarters of [Mangalsen](/source/Mangalsen).

## Demographics

At the time of the [2011 Nepal census](/source/2011_Nepal_census), Sanphebagar Municipality had a population of 34,128. Of these, 89.2% spoke [Achhami](/source/Nepali_language#Dialects), 9.0% [Nepali](/source/Nepali_language), 0.3% [Bajureli](/source/Nepali_language#Dialects), 0.3% [Maithili](/source/Maithili_language), 0.2% [Doteli](/source/Doteli), 0.2% [Tharu](/source/Tharu_languages), 0.1% [Hindi](/source/Hindi), 0.1% [Kham](/source/Magar_Kham_language), 0.1% [Magar](/source/Magar_language), 0.1% [Tamang](/source/Tamang_language), 0.1% [Urdu](/source/Urdu) and 0.2% other languages as their first language.[4]

In terms of ethnicity/caste, 57.2% were [Chhetri](/source/Chhetri), 17.9% other [Dalit](/source/Dalit), 9.7% [Kami](/source/Kami_(caste)), 5.2% [Hill Brahmin](/source/Bahun), 4.5% [Damai](/source/Damai)/Dholi, 1.4% [Sarki](/source/Sarki_(ethnic_group)), 0.8% [Thakuri](/source/Thakuri), 0.6% [Teli](/source/Teli), 0.5% [Musalman](/source/Nepalese_Muslims), 0.3% [Magar](/source/Magars), 0.3% Sanyasi/Dasnami, 0.2% [Badi](/source/Badi_people), 0.2% [Rai](/source/Rai_people), 0.2% [Tharu](/source/Tharu_people), 0.1% [Bengali](/source/Bengalis), 0.1% [Terai](/source/Terai) [Brahmin](/source/Brahmin), 0.1% [Lohar](/source/Lohar_(caste)), 0.1% [Newar](/source/Newar_people), 0.1% [Tamang](/source/Tamang_people), 0.1% other Terai and 0.3% others.[5]

In terms of religion, 99.0% were [Hindu](/source/Hinduism_in_Nepal), 0.5% [Muslim](/source/Islam_in_Nepal), 0.3% [Christian](/source/Christianity_in_Nepal), 0.1% [Buddhist](/source/Buddhism_in_Nepal) and 0.1% others.[6]

In terms of literacy, 64.9% could read and write, 3.8% could only read and 31.3% could neither read nor write.[7]

## Transportation

[Sanphebagar Airport](/source/Sanphebagar_Airport) was out of operation since 2005. On 14 October 2018 flights resumed after 13 years from the initiatives of former mayor **Kul Bahadur Kunwar**.
