In 1994 he moved to Germany, joined the [Saarland University](/source/Saarland_University) as an [Alexander von Humboldt Fellow](/source/Alexander_von_Humboldt_Fellow)<ref name="auto14"/> (1994-1996). Following this, he worked for his habilitation (2004)<ref name="auto2">{{Cite web|url=https://ceramics.org/wp-content/bulletin/2023/Jan-Feb2023/Jan-Feb2023.html#p=18|title=Jan-Feb2023|website=ceramics.org}}</ref> at the  [Saarland University](/source/Saarland_University) until he accepted an offer of the [Würzburg University](/source/W%C3%BCrzburg_University) in 2006 to become a [Professor](/source/Professor) of Inorganic Chemistry. Mathur's research focuses on chemical concepts for the synthesis and processing of [nanostructure](/source/nanostructure)d [ceramic](/source/ceramic)s and [composites](/source/Composite_material) through the transformation of specially developed chemical feedstocks for [energy](/source/energy) and health applications.
