Sandra Brown was born in [Waco, Texas](/source/Waco%2C_Texas), and raised in [Fort Worth](/source/Fort_Worth%2C_Texas). She majored in English at [Texas Christian University](/source/Texas_Christian_University) (TCU) in Fort Worth, but left college in 1968 to marry.

After her marriage, Brown worked for [KLTV](/source/KLTV) in [Tyler](/source/Tyler%2C_Texas) as a weathercaster, then returned to the [Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex](/source/Dallas-Fort_Worth_metroplex) area where she became a reporter for [WFAA-TV](/source/WFAA-TV)'s version of ''[PM Magazine](/source/PM_Magazine)''.
