The '''Samuel baronetcy''', of The Mote and Portland Place, was created in the [Baronetage of the United Kingdom](/source/Baronetage_of_the_United_Kingdom) on 26 August 1903 for the businessman [Marcus Samuel](/source/Marcus_Samuel%2C_1st_Viscount_Bearsted). He had previously represented [Whitechapel](/source/Whitechapel_(UK_Parliament_constituency)) in the [House of Commons](/source/House_of_Commons_of_the_United_Kingdom). Samuel was the elder brother of [Herbert Samuel, 1st Viscount Samuel](/source/Herbert_Samuel%2C_1st_Viscount_Samuel), the nephew of [Samuel Montagu, 1st Baron Swaythling](/source/Samuel_Montagu%2C_1st_Baron_Swaythling), and the cousin of [Edwin Samuel Montagu](/source/Edwin_Samuel_Montagu). The title became extinct on his death in 1926.
