# Samson Tam

**Samson Tam Wai-ho**, [JP](/source/Justice_of_the_Peace) () (born 26 February 1964 in [Hong Kong](/source/Hong_Kong)) was an elected member of the [Legislative Council of Hong Kong](/source/Legislative_Council_of_Hong_Kong) ([Functional constituency](/source/Functional_constituency_(Hong_Kong)), [Information Technology](/source/Information_Technology)) from 2008 to 2012. He is the [chairman](/source/Chairman) and one of the [founders](/source/Founder_(person)) of [Group Sense](/source/Group_Sense) (International) Limited, the [manufacturer](/source/Manufacturer) of "[Instant-Dict](/source/Instant-Dict_(brand))" () [Chinese](/source/Chinese_language)-[English](/source/English_language) [electronic dictionary](/source/Electronic_dictionary). He graduated from [Chinese University of Hong Kong](/source/Chinese_University_of_Hong_Kong) with a [BSc](/source/Bachelor_of_Science) degree. Afterwards he was awarded a [PhD](/source/Doctor_of_Philosophy) by [Hong Kong Polytechnic University](/source/Hong_Kong_Polytechnic_University). He received "The Young Industrialist Award of Hong Kong" in 1992 and was named one of the “[Ten Outstanding Young Persons](/source/Ten_Outstanding_Young_Persons)” in 1997.[1] He is also the president of [Kitchee SC](/source/Kitchee_SC).

Samson won the seat of functional constituency (information technology) in the [Legislative Council of Hong Kong](/source/Legislative_Council_of_Hong_Kong) election in the year 2008, defeating [Charles Mok](/source/Charles_Mok), by 35 votes.[2]

In the run-up to 23 June 2010 Legco vote on the Hong Kong government's [2009 reform package](/source/Democratic_development_in_Hong_Kong#2009_reform_package), he offered his support if it included the Democratic Party's compromise proposal to have the five new district council functional constituency seats returned by popular election.[3]

In the year 2012, Samson lost his seat in the [Legislative Council of Hong Kong](/source/Legislative_Council_of_Hong_Kong) to [Charles Mok](/source/Charles_Mok), by 765 votes.[4][5]
