==Professional career==
Ochoa began his professional career in the youth ranks of [Estudiantes Tecos](/source/Estudiantes_Tecos). He made his debut for Tecos first team during the 2006 season. However, he did not receive significant playing time with the first team.

After spending 5 seasons with [Estudiantes Tecos](/source/Estudiantes_Tecos), Ochoa signed with [Major League Soccer](/source/Major_League_Soccer) on August 24, 2011, and was acquired via the MLS allocation process by [Seattle Sounders FC](/source/Seattle_Sounders_FC) on August 26.<ref>{{cite news |title=Ex-US youth international signs MLS deal |url=http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/article/2011/08/24/ex-us-youth-international-sammy--signs-mls-deal |publisher=Major League Soccer |date=24 August 2011 |accessdate=24 August 2011 }}</ref> He  made his MLS debut for the Sounders on September 24, 2011, coming on as a substitute for [Nate Jaqua](/source/Nate_Jaqua) in a 3–1 road win over [Vancouver Whitecaps FC](/source/Vancouver_Whitecaps_FC). Ochoa was part of the [United States U-20](/source/United_States_men's_national_under-20_soccer_team) [squad](/source/2005_FIFA_World_Youth_Championship_squads) in the [2005 FIFA World Youth Championship](/source/2005_FIFA_World_Youth_Championship) and played in four matches. He also scored one goal against Turkey in a 3–2 loss.
