# Samar Amer

**Samar Amer** (born 4 April 1995) is an Egyptian [freestyle wrestler](/source/Freestyle_wrestler). She won the silver medal in the [women's 76 kg](/source/2022_World_Wrestling_Championships_%E2%80%93_Women's_freestyle_76_kg) event at the [2022 World Wrestling Championships](/source/2022_World_Wrestling_Championships) held in Belgrade, Serbia.[1][2] She became the first woman representing Egypt to reach a final at the World Wrestling Championships.[3]

Amer competed at the [2016 Summer Olympics](/source/2016_Summer_Olympics) in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and the [2020 Summer Olympics](/source/2020_Summer_Olympics) in Tokyo, Japan.

## Career

In 2016, Amer competed in the [women's freestyle 75 kg](/source/Wrestling_at_the_2016_Summer_Olympics_%E2%80%93_Women's_freestyle_75_kg) event at the [2016 Summer Olympics](/source/2016_Summer_Olympics), in which she was eliminated in the round of 32 by [Ekaterina Bukina](/source/Ekaterina_Bukina).[4][5]

In 2021, Amer won the silver medal in the 76 kg event at the [Matteo Pellicone Ranking Series 2021](/source/Matteo_Pellicone_Ranking_Series_2021) held in Rome, Italy.[6] She qualified at the [2021 African & Oceania Wrestling Olympic Qualification Tournament](/source/2021_African_%26_Oceania_Wrestling_Olympic_Qualification_Tournament) to [represent Egypt](/source/Egypt_at_the_2020_Summer_Olympics) at the [2020 Summer Olympics](/source/2020_Summer_Olympics) in Tokyo, Japan.[7][8] She competed in the [women's freestyle 76 kg](/source/Wrestling_at_the_2020_Summer_Olympics_%E2%80%93_Women's_freestyle_76_kg) event. She won one of the bronze medals in the [women's 76 kg](/source/2021_World_Wrestling_Championships_%E2%80%93_Women's_freestyle_76_kg) event at the [2021 World Wrestling Championships](/source/2021_World_Wrestling_Championships) held in Oslo, Norway.[9][10]

In 2022, Amer competed in the women's 76 kg event at the [Yasar Dogu Tournament](/source/2022_Yasar_Dogu_Tournament) held in Istanbul, Turkey.[11] She won the gold medal in her event at the [2022 African Wrestling Championships](/source/2022_African_Wrestling_Championships) held in El Jadida, Morocco.[12][13] She won one of the bronze medals in the [76 kg](/source/Wrestling_at_the_2022_Mediterranean_Games_%E2%80%93_Women's_freestyle_76_kg) event at the [2022 Mediterranean Games](/source/2022_Mediterranean_Games) held in Oran, Algeria.[14] She won the bronze medal in her event at the [2022 Tunis Ranking Series](/source/2022_Tunis_Ranking_Series) event held in Tunis, Tunisia.[15] She won the silver medal in the [women's 76 kg](/source/2022_World_Wrestling_Championships_%E2%80%93_Women's_freestyle_76_kg) event at the [2022 World Wrestling Championships](/source/2022_World_Wrestling_Championships) held in Belgrade, Serbia.[1][2]

Amer won the gold medal in her event at the [2023 African Wrestling Championships](/source/2023_African_Wrestling_Championships) held in Hammamet, Tunisia.[16][17]

Amer competed at the [2024 African & Oceania Wrestling Olympic Qualification Tournament](/source/2024_African_%26_Oceania_Wrestling_Olympic_Qualification_Tournament) held in Alexandria, Egypt without qualifying for the [2024 Summer Olympics](/source/2024_Summer_Olympics) in Paris, France.[18] She also competed at the [2024 World Wrestling Olympic Qualification Tournament](/source/2024_World_Wrestling_Olympic_Qualification_Tournament) held in Istanbul, Turkey without qualifying for the Olympics.[19] She was eliminated in her first match.[19]
