# Sam Silas

**Samuel Louis Silas** (September 25, 1940 – December 17, 2023)[1] was an American professional [football](/source/American_football) player who was a [defensive lineman](/source/Defensive_lineman) in the [National Football League](/source/National_Football_League) (NFL).[2] He was selected by the [Boston Patriots](/source/Boston_Patriots) in the sixth round (46th overall) of the [1963 AFL draft](/source/1963_American_Football_League_Draft). He played for the [St. Louis Cardinals](/source/St._Louis_Cardinals_(NFL)) from 1963 to 1967, for the [New York Giants](/source/New_York_Giants) in 1968, and for the [San Francisco 49ers](/source/San_Francisco_49ers) from 1969 to 1970.[3] He went to one [Pro Bowl](/source/Pro_Bowl) during his eight-year career, and was selected to one [All-Pro](/source/All-Pro) team. Silas played for the [Portland Storm](/source/Portland_Storm) of the [World Football League](/source/World_Football_League) in 1974.[citation needed]
