In 1951, he entered Immaculata Seminary in [Lafayette, Louisiana](/source/Lafayette%2C_Louisiana), graduating in 1957. Jacobs then entered the [Catholic University of America](/source/The_Catholic_University_of_America) in Washington, D.C., as a Basselin scholar, graduating with a degree in [theology](/source/theology) in 1964.[{{Cite web|title=Bishop Emeritus Sam G.
