**Samuel Fischer** (born 5 July 1991) is an Australian [pop rock](/source/Pop_rock)[1] singer-songwriter and musician. Fischer released music independently before signing with [RCA Records](/source/RCA_Records) in 2019. RCA re-released his debut EP *Not a Hobby* in January 2020.[2][3]

## Life and career

### Early life

Fischer was born outside of Sydney in 1991[1] and grew up on a farm in the town of [Grose Vale](/source/Grose_Vale), just outside [Sydney, Australia](/source/Sydney,_Australia). His musical life began at age three when he started playing [violin](/source/Violin) after being inspired by seeing a performance by Queenie.[4] He moved with his family to Sydney when he was seven, and at age 10 took up the [saxophone](/source/Saxophone), later playing in his high school [jazz](/source/Jazz) band. By age 12, he was writing songs, learning to do so after listening to [Human Nature](/source/Human_Nature_(band))'s [self-titled album](/source/Human_Nature_(Human_Nature_album)) (which included songs such as *[He Don't Love You](/source/He_Don't_Love_You)*, *[When We Were Young](/source/When_We_Were_Young_(Human_Nature_song))* and *[Don't Come Back](/source/Don't_Come_Back)*) which his parents had bought for him.[5] He attended [Sydney Grammar School](/source/Sydney_Grammar_School) and later the [Conservatorium High School](/source/Conservatorium_High_School) in Sydney. In 2010 he was accepted to [Berklee College of Music](/source/Berklee_College_of_Music) in [Boston](/source/Boston), and moved to that city to study music.[6] He is classically trained on saxophone and violin. At Berklee he joined the [a cappella](/source/A_cappella) troupe Pitch Slapped and was a member when the group won the [International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella](/source/International_Championship_of_Collegiate_A_Cappella) in 2014.[7]

### 2012–2021: *Not a Hobby*

Fischer's debut release was as a featured artist on Alex Preston's single "Heartbeats" in July 2012.[8] In September 2014, after graduating from Berklee,[9] Fischer moved to [Los Angeles](/source/Los_Angeles), where he was active in the local a cappella scene and sang backing vocals for the band [Holychild](/source/Holychild)[4] while writing songs and aiming for success as an artist on his own.

In May 2016, Fischer released his first single "Lean".[10][11] The following year he released the singles "Same Friends", which premiered at *[Billboard](/source/Billboard_(magazine))* on 10 November 2017[12] and "Getting Older".[13] Fischer featured on Opia's single "Secrets".[14]

In January 2018, Fischer released his debut EP, *Not a Hobby*.[1] In May 2018, Fischer released a second EP titled *Sam Fischer (Our Vinyl Sessions)*, featuring acoustic recordings of "Getting Older", "Same Friends" and "Lean".[15] In January 2019, Fischer collaboration with London's Black Saint on "Everybody Wants You" which became a dance in mid-2019.[1] The same year, he toured with [Lewis Capaldi](/source/Lewis_Capaldi).[16] Later in 2019, Fischer was signed by [RCA Records](/source/RCA_Records) who re-released "[This City](/source/This_City_(Sam_Fischer_song))" in December 2019[17] and re-released *Not a Hobby* EP in January 2020.[2] *Not a Hobby* peaked at number 15 on the Australian Artist Singles Chart on 9 March 2020.[18]

Fischer has worked with a variety of producers and has written songs for artists including [Ciara](/source/Ciara) ("[Dose](/source/Dose_(Ciara_song))"),[citation needed] [Elle King](/source/Elle_King), [Sabrina Claudio](/source/Sabrina_Claudio), [Keith Urban](/source/Keith_Urban), [MAX](/source/Max_(American_singer)), Christian French, [Andy Grammer](/source/Andy_Grammer), [Saygrace](/source/Saygrace), and [Jessie J](/source/Jessie_J).[19][20]

In February 2021, Fischer released "[What Other People Say](/source/What_Other_People_Say)", a collaboration with American singer, [Demi Lovato](/source/Demi_Lovato). The track went on to peak within the top 100 in multiple regions, including the [United Kingdom](/source/United_Kingdom), at 70, and [Australia](/source/Australia), at 58, as well as within the top 20 in [Scotland](/source/Scotland). The song was subsequently included on Lovato's seventh studio album, [*Dancing with the Devil... The Art of Starting Over.*](/source/Dancing_with_the_Devil..._the_Art_of_Starting_Over)

### 2022–present: *I Love You, Please Don't Hate Me*

In September 2022, Fischer returned to Australia for the first time since the [COVID-19 pandemic](/source/COVID-19_pandemic), opening as a support act for British singer [Mimi Webb](/source/Mimi_Webb) on her tour of the country and [New Zealand](/source/New_Zealand).[21]

Fischer released his debut album, *[I Love You, Please Don't Hate Me](/source/I_Love_You,_Please_Don't_Hate_Me)*, on 1 December 2023.[22]
