# Sagan River

The **Sagan River** is a seasonal river in southern [Ethiopia](/source/Ethiopia).

Rising in the [Ethiopian Highlands](/source/Ethiopian_Highlands) mountains east of [Lake Chamo](/source/Lake_Chamo), it flows south then west to join the [Weito River](/source/Weito_River) at [5°13′N 37°1′E](https://geohack.toolforge.org/geohack.php?params=5_13_N_37_1_E).

It defines part of the boundary between the [Southern Nations, Nationalities, and Peoples' Region](/source/Southern_Nations,_Nationalities,_and_Peoples'_Region) and the [Oromia Region](/source/Oromia_Region).

[Tributaries](/source/Tributary) of the Sagan include the [Talpeena](/source/Talpeena)[citation needed].

In 2023, [cholera](/source/Cholera) was traced to the river, with confirmed cases identified to human consumption of river water.[1] At the time, the cholera outbreak in the country was the longest in the country's history to date.[1]
