On 6 December 2019, President-elect [Alberto Fernández](/source/Alberto_Fern%C3%A1ndez) announced his intention of appointing Frederic as security minister, succeeding [Patricia Bullrich](/source/Patricia_Bullrich); Frederic positioned herself as a staunch opponent of Bullrich's security policies.<ref>{{cite web|url=https://www.cronista.com/economiapolitica/Quien-es-Sabina-Frederic-la-ministra-de-Seguridad-de-Alberto-Fernandez-20191203-0020.html|title=Quién es Sabina Frederic, la ministra de Seguridad de Alberto Fernández|work=[El Cronista](/source/El_Cronista)|language=Spanish|date=27 December 2019|accessdate=27 April 2020}}</ref> She assumed office alongside the rest of Fernández's cabinet on 10 December 2019.
