Shusha was under control of [Armenian](/source/Armenia) forces from the [capture of Shusha](/source/Battle_of_Shusha_(1992)) on May 8, 1992, until the city's [recapture](/source/Battle_of_Shusha_(2020)) by Azerbaijan on 8 November 2020.[1][2][3]

## History

The Saatli Mosque was built in 1883 in the Saatli neighbourhood of Shusha.[4] It was designed by prominent Azerbaijani architect [Karbalayi Safikhan Karabakhi](/source/Karbalayi_Safikhan_Karabakhi), and follow the design of earlier mosques of Shusha, including the [Yukhari Govhar Agha Mosque](/source/Yukhari_Govhar_Agha_Mosque), [Ashaghi Govhar Agha Mosque](/source/Ashaghi_Govhar_Agha_Mosque) and the [Agdam Mosque](/source/Agdam_Mosque) in [Aghdam](/source/Aghdam). The Saatli Mosque is considered one of the final masterpieces of Karabakhi, built with two [minarets](/source/Minaret).[5] The mosque has a three-naved prayer hall and brick minaret with especially patterned decoration specific to architecture of [Karabakh](/source/Karabakh).[4][6]
