# Saad Ali

**Syed Saad Ali** (born 5 October 1993) is a Pakistani-born [cricketer](/source/Cricket) who played for the [Pakistan national cricket team](/source/Pakistan_national_cricket_team) in 2019 before retiring in 2023 to join [Major League Cricket](/source/Major_League_Cricket).[1][2]

## Domestic career

He made his [Twenty20](/source/Twenty20) debut for [Islamabad](/source/Islamabad_cricket_team) in the [2017–18 National T20 Cup](/source/2017%E2%80%9318_National_T20_Cup) on 12 November 2017.[3] In November 2017, he was selected to play for the [Quetta Gladiators](/source/Quetta_Gladiators) in [2018 Pakistan Super League players draft](/source/2018_Pakistan_Super_League_players_draft).[4]

He was the leading run-scorer in the [2017–18 Quaid-e-Azam Trophy](/source/2017%E2%80%9318_Quaid-e-Azam_Trophy), with a total of 957 runs in ten matches, more than 200 runs ahead of the next leading batsman in the tournament.[5] He was also the leading run-scorer for [Karachi Whites](/source/Karachi_Whites) in the [2018–19 Quaid-e-Azam One Day Cup](/source/2018%E2%80%9319_Quaid-e-Azam_One_Day_Cup), with 243 runs in five matches.[6] He was also the leading run-scorer for [Peshawar](/source/Peshawar_cricket_team) in the [2018–19 National T20 Cup](/source/2018%E2%80%9319_National_T20_Cup), with 183 runs in four matches.[7]

In March 2019, he was named in [Punjab](/source/Punjab_cricket_team_(Pakistan))'s squad for the [2019 Pakistan Cup](/source/2019_Pakistan_Cup).[8][9] In September 2019, he was named in [Sindh](/source/Sindh_cricket_team)'s squad for the [2019–20 Quaid-e-Azam Trophy](/source/2019%E2%80%9320_Quaid-e-Azam_Trophy) tournament.[10][11] In March 2021, Saad was signed by Longton Cricket Club to play in the [North Staffordshire and South Cheshire League](/source/North_Staffordshire_and_South_Cheshire_League) during the summer of 2021 in England.[12]

## International career

In April 2018, he was named in Pakistan's [Test](/source/Test_cricket) squad for their tours to [Ireland](/source/Pakistani_cricket_team_in_Ireland_in_2018) and [England](/source/Pakistani_cricket_team_in_England_in_2018) in May 2018, but he did not play.[13][14] In August 2018, he was one of thirty-three players to be awarded a central contract for the 2018–19 season by the [Pakistan Cricket Board](/source/Pakistan_Cricket_Board) (PCB).[15][16]

In November 2018, he was again named in Pakistan's Test squad, this time for their series [against New Zealand](/source/New_Zealand_cricket_team_against_Pakistan_in_the_UAE_in_2018%E2%80%9319).[17] In December 2018, he was named in Pakistan's team for the [2018 ACC Emerging Teams Asia Cup](/source/2018_ACC_Emerging_Teams_Asia_Cup).[18]

In March 2019, he was named in Pakistan's [One Day International](/source/One_Day_International) (ODI) squad for their series [against Australia](/source/Australian_cricket_team_against_Pakistan_in_the_UAE_in_2018%E2%80%9319).[19][20] He made his ODI debut for Pakistan against [Australia](/source/Australia_national_cricket_team) on 29 March 2019.[21]
